I SOJA PRESENTANO “BORN IN BABYLON”, quello che ancora per il momento rimane il loro ultimo album (il nuovo disco “STRENGTH TO SURVIVE” uscirà il 31 gennaio 2012 con ATO Records), uscito il 25/08/2009 sotto DMV Records in esclusiva per Itunes.
“BORN IN BABYLON”, il 3° studio album della band, è senza dubbio una delle migliori produzioni reggae degli ultimi anni ed ha debuttato nella Top 10 Reggae albums di iTunes, dove si trova ancora oggi per quanto riguarda la classifica americana.

Marley wrote it after he went to Africa. I was 13 or 14 when I listened to it for the first time and it triggered all these long-forgotten memories of when I lived in Africa as a kid. My dad was an IMF res rep in Liberia in the late 80’s. I remember when the coup first started—- my family had to hide in these iron bathtubs for 3 days because the military was shooting at everything. I was 7 and that was one of my first memories. We made it out on the last flight. So Africa was always a big part of our lives—- it defined our family, in a way. Music came right after that, so, for me, music was always tied to Africa and music was always something powerful.”

Shortly after returning from Africa, Hemphill met Bobby Lee (bass) in the first grade in Virginia. The two instantly became best friends, finding common ground through their love of hip hop, rock and reg

gae which they performed together at their middle school talent shows. Throughout high school, they met Ryan Berty (drums), Kenneth Brownell (percussion) and Patrick O’Shea (keyboards) and together formed SOJA. The band gigg

ed locally in the DC area while a couple of the guys finished school, all the while making plans to hit the road after graduation. They actually wound up owning the road.

Over the course of the past few years, SOJA has sold more than 150,000 albums, headlined large theaters in more than 15 countries around the world, generated over 20 million+ YouTube views, amassed more than a half-million Facebook fans, and attracted an almost Grateful Dead-like international fanbase that grows with each tour, with caravans of diehards following them from city to city. Most impressive of all, they’ve accomplished all this on their own. Hemphill says the band’s simple and honest approach to music is what’s enabled them to break through obstacles of language, distance and culture in amassing an international following. “What’s the alternative – pop music?” he laughs. “Pop music—especially American pop music, is about having money, sleeping with models, living in mansions, spending all of our time in clubs and generally being better than the rest of the world. It’s funny, ‘cuz everyone here is broke. We sing about different things—things that actually matter. I think our fans appreciate that.”

“When I look out in the audience and I see these kids with tears in their eyes, not because I’m singing a love song, but because I’m singing about how the world is dying and we’re the only ones who can stop it, that is huge. I live for that. We played a festival in Brazil in front of 80,000 people, and everybody was singing every word—in English. After one of the songs, I told them, ‘We’re on the road a lot, and people always ask me, “Don’t you ever get ho

mesick? Don’t you miss your family?” I said, ‘It took me awhile to realize this, but this is my home, and you all are my family.’ The place just blew up. It was amazing. But it’s the truth—those are my people and I always want to do right by them. It’s is the only game in town for me.”

Il nome che infiammerà la serata arriva direttamente da Washington D.C. ed assieme ai Groundation e ai Rebelution costituisce una delle punte di diamante del movimento delle reggae band nate negli Stati Uniti che, negli ultimi anni, è riuscito a conquistarsi uno spazio molto importante nella scena internazionale….stiamo parlando dei SOJA!!!! Mooore fire!!

MANDEREMO IN ONDA L’INTERVISTA realizzata il 24 maggio 2010 a Jacob Hemphill, il frontman dei SOJA, poche ora prima del concerto che li ha visti mandare completamente a fuoco il palco dell’Alcatraz di Milano, per l’unica data italiana del tour mondiale “Born In babylon Tour” a supporto del “Diversity Tour – 2010″ di Gentleman & The Evolution Band!!
I SOJA PRESENTANO “BORN IN BABYLON”, quello che ancora per il momento rimane il loro ultimo album (il nuovo disco “STRENGTH TO SURVIVE” uscirà il 31 gennaio 2012 con ATO Records), uscito il 25/08/2009 sotto DMV Records in esclusiva per Itunes.
“BORN IN BABYLON”, il 3° studio album della band, è senza dubbio una delle migliori produzioni reggae degli ultimi anni ed ha debuttato nella Top 10 Reggae albums di iTunes, dove si trova ancora oggi per quanto riguarda la classifica americana. 
“BORN IN BABYLON” è caratterizzato da un mix di stili e vibrazioni molto vario, che ne conferisce così un anima molto sperimentale e che fa ruotare le tracce in un’atmosfera decisamente ipnotica attorno ad alcuni elementi fissi, quali un basso ed una batteria profondamente roots, una “big wide guitar”, un’impronta vocale piuttosto melodica e liriche dal dna militante ed appassionato.
“BORN IN BABYLON” è impreziosito da diverse collaborazioni di altissimo livello, una su tutte la big tune “I Tried” assieme a Gentleman e Tamika!! Le altre combinations sono firmate da Rebelution, Chris Boomer e Mambo Sauce.

SOJA OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY:

Mention folk music to the average listener and the list of usual suspects come to mind: Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Woodie Guthrie, etc. Talk to SOJA lead singer/guitarist Jacob Hemphill, however, and you’ll walk away with a different perspective. “To me, Rage Against The Machine, Wu -Tang Clan, Sade, Johnny Cash, Bob Marley – they’re all folk artists,” he says. “There’s no difference between Raekwon saying, ‘I grew up on the crime side, the New York Times side, where staying alive was no jive,’ to Bob Marley saying, ‘Cold ground was my bed last night and rock was my pillow, too,’ to Johnny Cash saying, ‘I know I had it coming, I know I can’t be free, but those people keep on moving (around) and that’s what tortures me.’ Folk is all about storytelling and passing on a legacy. It’s timeless, it’s limitless and it crosses all boundaries. That’s what this band is striving for. It’s a tall order,” he laughs, “but we’re making our way.”

They’re raising the bar with Strength to Survive, their fourth full-length album, an intoxicating mix of hot-rod reggae grooves and urgent, zeitgeist-capturing themes. The album, produced by John Alagia (Dave Matthews, John Mayer, O.A.R.), will be the band’s first for ATO, the label co-founded by Dave Matthews.

Hemphill says the album was greatly inspired by Bob Marley’s Survival. “That’s the greatest reggae album ever made,” he says. “It has the best basslines and the best lyrics ever heard on one record. Marley wrote it after he went to Africa. I was 13 or 14 when I listened to it for the first time and it triggered all these long-forgotten memories of when I lived in Africa as a kid. My dad was an IMF res rep in Liberia in the late 80’s. I remember when the coup first started—- my family had to hide in these iron bathtubs for 3 days because the military was shooting at everything. I was 7 and that was one of my first memories. We made it out on the last flight. So Africa was always a big part of our lives—- it defined our family, in a way. Music came right after that, so, for me, music was always tied to Africa and music was always something powerful.”

Shortly after returning from Africa, Hemphill met Bobby Lee (bass) in the first grade in Virginia. The two instantly became best friends, finding common ground through their love of hip hop, rock and reggae which they performed together at their middle school talent shows. Throughout high school, they met Ryan Berty (drums), Kenneth Brownell (percussion) and Patrick O’Shea (keyboards) and together formed SOJA. The band gigged locally in the DC area while a couple of the guys finished school, all the while making plans to hit the road after graduation. They actually wound up owning the road.

Over the course of the past few years, SOJA has sold more than 150,000 albums, headlined large theaters in more than 15 countries around the world, generated over 20 million+ YouTube views, amassed more than a half-million Facebook fans, and attracted an almost Grateful Dead-like international fanbase that grows with each tour, with caravans of diehards following them from city to city. Most impressive of all, they’ve accomplished all this on their own. This 7-piece band has spent the past year and a half grinding it out from venue to venue, playing more than 360 dates, including headlining sold-out tours of North and South America, as well as opening for O.A.R. and sharing stages with everyone from Dave Matthews Band to Matisyahu.

E siamo finalmente arrivati al giro di boa, quella di lunedì 12 dicembresarà ufficialmente l’ultima diretta di Ghetto Connection del 2011!!
Questa che sarà per noi puntata “d’addio” sarà invece segnata da un grande ritorno…stiamo parlando dei 99 POSSE!! 
Nel 2011 infatti i 99 POSSE, ovvero O’ Zulù (Luca Persico), Kaya Pezz8 (Marco Messina), JRM (Massimo Jovine) e Sacha Ricci, ritornano assieme in studio per riprendere il filo di un discorso interrotto un decennio fa.
La loro è una voce unica in Italia, lucida, radicale e underground, nata nella culla del primo rap italiano ma che oggi spicca per la singolarità del punto di vista. Il loro linguaggio, sempre molto acceso, suona persino più affilato e diretto di prima, certamente più maturo.

MANDEREMO IN ONDA L’INTERVISTA realizzata il 06/12/2011 a Marco Messina e Massimo Jovine della 99 POSSE il giorno dopo il concerto che li ha visti protagonisti sul palco dell’Alcatraz di Milano.
I 99 POSSE PRESENTANO “CATTIVI GUAGLIUNI”, il loro ultimo album, uscito il 25 ottobre 2011 prodotto da Musica Posse e distribuito da Artist First, che ha sancito la reunion!!
Il suono di “CATTIVI GUAGLIUNI” segna una sorta di ritorno alle origini e ripropone l’efficacissima miscela di generi che caratterizza la band fin dal primo album, naturalmente aggiornata ad oggi. Si va dall’R’n’B tinteggiato di Reggae ai suoni Nu Disco fino all’Hardcore Punk, seguendo un percorso che mostra alcuni punti fermi, innanzitutto il Raggamuffin e l’Hip Hop.
Anche i testi confermano e rinnovano la tipica miscela di attivismo, dissacrazione e alta temperatura emotiva degli esordi e ce n’è per tutti, a destra come a sinistra. Naturalmente si parla di attivismo, dell’Italia di oggi e della vita ma non manca il consueto humor dei 99 Posse.
L’espressione che descrive più di ogni altra lo stato d’animo di questo album è rinnovata rnergia, chiaro segnale di un ritorno sulle scene non occasionale né opportunistico, con un approccio molto simile a quello che aveva caratterizzato “Curre Curre Guagliò”, il lavoro che segnò il loro esordio.
Ricco l’elenco delle collaborazioni: da Caparezza a molti nuovi e vecchi complici della scena napoletana: Daniele Sepe, Speaker Cenzu, Valerio Jovine, Clementino e Claudio Marino.
Menzione a parte merita l’incontro con Abel Ferrara, che ha diretto il videoclip del primo singolo “Cattivi Guagliuni”.

VIDEOMIND, il nome che unisce Paura, Clementino e Tayone, è qualcosa di più un semplice gruppo, è un progetto ambizioso e in continua evoluzione musicale che mira a fondere il rap italiano con la disco music, l’elettronica ed il funk per rinnovare il genere rap nostrano e farlo entrare nelle orecchie di tutti dai più giovani attirati dall’immaginario Hip Hop, ai cultori di suoni più maturi e diversi.
Tutti e tre hanno una lunga storia alle spalle che si mixa nel progetto Videomind: Paura, arriva dal gruppo campano “13 Bastardi” ed è grafico di fama internazionale, a lui si devono le scelte stilistiche del progetto, Clementino, è l’mc che col suo flow newyorkese, ha vinto qualsiasi competizione di freestyle italiana, e Tayone, turntabilst di fama mondiale che ha fatto parte della mitica crew di dj “Alien Army”.
I VIDEOMIND PRESENTANO “AFTER PARTY”, il loro disco di debutto uscito il 30 settembre 2010 e prodotto da Relief Records Europe!
“Siamo figli e vittime della video-generation e dei tempi che viviamo” è la grande ammissione che tesse i fili di Afterparty. Open mind-Videomind ne è lo slogan che, oltre a riassumere le coordinate mentali e gli intenti del trio, ne palesa la transmedialità.
Una dicotomia che si tramuta anche in dialogo fra analogico e digitale. Così musicisti di calibro (come Roy Paci, Federico Poggipollini, Alessio Manna e Patrick dei Casino Royale, e ancora Daniele Franzese e Davide Beatino) entrano in studio e i campionatori diventano parte di un’orchestra propria al 2010.

Il club Morgan’s di Bellinzago Novarese (NO) continua con i grandi concerti in programma nel nuovo appuntamento settimanale “L’altro venerdì del Morgan’s”  che spaziano dal rock alla black music. Dopo il successo degli ultimi appuntamenti (il rock adrenalinico dei Ministri, il set di Persiana Jones e quello di Inoki e Assalti Frontali) ecco i prossimi venerdì live sul palco del Morgan’s:

-Venerdì 25 marzo – onstage al Morgan’s – SKIANTOS!
Gli Skiantos sono da considerarsi gli inventori del genere “rock demenziale” che, nella seconda metà degli anni ‘70, portarono l’ironia e la dissacrazione nell’universo musicale italiano. Sono di Bologna, capitanati dall’icona Roberto “freak” Antoni e sono una formazione che ha uno stile unico, bizzarro e inconfondibile: punk e ironia, punk e dissacrazione, punk e tantissima simpatia, questi gli ingredienti di uno dei principali e storici gruppi italiani.

-Venerdì 8 e 24 aprile: 2 set infuocati per gli amanti delle sonorità elettroniche: l’8 aprile è di scena il talento nostrano LELE SACCHI, da 15 anni dietro ai piatti, riconosciuto a livello internazionale come uno dei maggiori  punti di riferimento della scena elettronica, house e alternativa italiana. Dopo essersi esibito nei migliori club in giro per il manodo, dal 2006 è tra i fondatori e cura la direzione  artistica del festival Elita che si tiene a Milano durante il Salone del Mobile. Di  recente insegna anche storia della musica dance al prestigioso Istituto Europeo di Design di Milano.
il 24 aprile, l’imperdibile esibizione in consolle del pioniere della drum and bass, DJ APHRODITE. Da Shanghai a Rio, dalla Gran Bretagna agli USA, da Sydney a Cape Town, da Mosca alla Corea Del Sud, Dj Aphrodite ha portato ovunque le “buone vibrazioni” della dnb, proponendo sempre, con efficacia e fantasia, il suo irresistibile mix di jungle, jump up, dubstep, hip hop e reggae music, noto al pubblico da più di 15 anni.

-Venerdì 15 aprile tocca al gruppo reggae romano RADICO NEL CEMENTO: attivo sulla scena romana dall’83, in breve tempo viene riconosciuto a livello nazionale e non solo, grazie ai fortunati tour che seguono ai dischi di successo. Tante le collaborazioni (da Roy Paci agli Africa Unite) e gli ullustri palchi calcati dalla band: dal festival Rototom Sunsplash, all’apertura del live degli UB40 a Milano, negli anni ’90.

-Il 29 aprile, ancora spazio ai ritmi black con i COLLE DER FOMENTO, romani, tra i gruppi più rappresentativi dell’hip hop in Italia, arrivando a condividere palchi con maestri d’oltreoceano del genere come i Fugees o Kool DJ Herc. I Colle sono Danno, Masito e dj Baro, pronti a infiammare il palco del Morgan’s di Bellinzago.

Il fondatore della Zulu Nation, feroce signore della guerra, durante le faide tra gang nella terribile New York degli anni ’70, poi redento e ambasciatore di pace, musicalmente uno dei primi dj a miscelare Kraftwerk, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, rock new wave e molto altro, ma è a livello umano e sociale che la storia di Bambaataa è mitica.

A fare da corollario ad una serata leggendaria non potevano certo mancare i leggendari rappresentanti nostrani delle diverse discipline Hip Hop: la breakdance di Next One, il turntablism di Dj Skizo, l’Mciing dei riuniti OTR.
